Lahore blast: Funeral prayers offered for 7 policemen including SSP Gondal, DIG Mobin

LAHORE – Funeral prayers for seven policemen including DIG Traffic Captain Ahmed Mobin and SSP Operations Nawaz Gondal martyred in the Lahore blast were offered at Badian road on Tuesday morning.

The funeral prayer was attended by Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, Punjab Governor Muhammad Rafique Rajwana, provincial law minister Rana Sanaullah along with other senior military and police officials.

A day of mourning is being observed in Punjab today to mourn the deaths of thirteen people including two senior police officials who lost their lives in the tragic blast.

According to reports, the national flags on important buildings in Punjab will remain at half-mast whereas trade associations across the province have announced that markets will be closed.

Bar associations in multiple cities including Lahore and Islamabad have also announced their decision to restrict their activities in grief of the deceased.

Hospital officials said that several patients under treatment are in critical condition.

Earlier, Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif visited the injured in various hospitals. He directed hospital administration to provide the injured with the best treatment.

At least 13 people including senior police officers were killed while 73 others were left injured after a massive explosion near Punjab Assembly on Monday.

The bomb blast occurred at Charing Cross, Mall Road, Lahore, killing DIG Traffic Capt (r) Ahmad Mubeen, SSP Mahmood Gondal and DSP Pervez Butt.

“The incident occurred as hundreds of chemists were protesting nearby against a new regulatory law,” Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said.

Many vehicles parked near the blast site caught fire, triggering panic and chaos in the area.
