LONDON – Pakistan left-handed opener Nasir Jamshed was arrested on Tuesday by Britain’s National Crime Agency (NCA) alongside a bookie named Yousuf, it has been learnt.
According to multiple media reports, both were released on bail but have been asked to report to the National Crime Agency in April.
“Two men in their thirties have been arrested by NCA officers in connection with bribery offences as part of an ongoing investigation into international cricket match spot-fixing,” read a press release on the NCA website.
“The men were arrested on Monday 13 February and have been released on bail until April 2017 pending further enquiries. As part of the on-going investigation we are working closely with the Pakistan Cricket Board and International Cricket Council’s anti-corruption units. The Pakistan Cricket Board has launched its own investigation which has resulted in the suspension of three players,” the statement further read.
Jamshed, who is accused of referring Islamabad duo Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif to alleged bookie Yousuf, has been provisionally suspended from all forms of cricket by the Pakistan Cricket Board. This was confirmed by PSL chairman Najam Sethi as well.

Pakistan Cricket Board has issued show cause notices to Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif and sought reply from the two players within seven days. Their central contracts have also been cancelled and they have been summoned by PCB in Lahore today (Wednesday).
Pakistan Cricket Board widened the scope of investigations into the alleged corruption in Pakistan Super League and investigated as many as 5 players, it has been learnt.
Soon after the provisional suspension of Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif, Muhammad Irfan of Islamabad United was also questioned. He was, however, allowed to remain a part of Islamabad United as PCB cleared him.
