Case registered against Balochistan home minister for hunting markhor

QUETTA – Balochistan Home Minister Mir Sarfaraz Ahmed Bugti landed in hot water after Levies Forces filed a case against him for allegedly hunting a markhor, a near to extinct wild goat species.

Dawn News quoted sources as saying that the case had been filed with the Takatu Levies Station in Quetta.

A few weeks ago, a picture of Bugti holding his gun and sitting next to a markhor hunted in the Takatu range of Quetta, went viral on social media.

The Balochistan High Court (BHC) taking notice of the picture directed the wildlife department to either impose fine on Bugti or register a case against him.

Markhor is a protected species under the law and the wildlife department receives between $80,000 and $100,000 for every markhor killed.

On the other hand, the minister denied breaking any rule, adding that he had not received any notice so far. “I would submit reply of all queries in a court of law, if notice is served.”
