NEW DELHI – Indian Foreign affairs Sushma Swaraj has warned Pakistan on Tuesday of “consequences” if it proceeds with the death sentence of Indian RAW agent Kulbhushan Jadhav.
Speaking in the Parliament. the foreign minister called Jadhav a son of India and said that the government will “go out of the way to save him”.
“I would caution the Pakistan government to consider the consequences for our bilateral relationship if they proceed on this matter,” she said, as quoted by Indian media.
“There is no evidence of any wrongdoing by Kulbhushan Jadhav. This is an act of premeditated murder,” said Swaraj in Rajya Sabha.
On Monday, Pakistan sentenced Kulbhushan Jadhav to death for carrying out espionage and subversive activities across the country.
Chief of Army Staff General (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa confirmed the death sentence awarded by the Field General Court Martial under the Pakistan Army Act.
Before Jadhav, another Indian spy Sarabjit Singh was sentenced to death. However, he died on May 2, 2013, after succumbing to serious injuries sustained in a brawl with his jail inmates in Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Jail.
