LAHORE – The Lahore High Court on Tuesday turned down a plea by the Chaudhry Sugar Mills, believed to be owned by ruling Sharif family, to use its raw material as the mills had been sealed due to court’s previous order.
The bench headed by Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah had on March 2 ordered immediate sealing of Chaudhry Sugar Mills in Rahim Yar Khan and Haseeb Waqas Sugar Mills in Muzaffargarh after violation of different stay orders was observed on part of the mills.
During Tuesday’s hearing, petitioner’s counsel argued that the case of his client (mills) was entirely different with the other two mills and so the mills should be allowed to use its raw material.
However, the bench turned down the request and deferred hearing of main case till April 24. The bench said it would hold day-to-day hearing from next date.
In October last year, the single bench declared the shifting of five sugar mills owned by close relatives of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif from one district to other as illegal on petitions filed by JDW Sugar Mills of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf leader Jahangir Tareen and others.
