ISLAMABAD – The Supreme Court of Pakistan reprimanded members of ruling Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz Haneef Abbasi and Danyal Aziz for expressing their concerns regarding discrimination by the apex court.
According to media reports, both the political stalwarts while talking to newsmen had expressed that the apex court did discrimination regarding cases against prime minister Nawaz Sharif and PTI chief Imran Khan. They had said that Imran Khan would also be disqualified equally provided justice is served.
However, the Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar summoned both the leaders on the rostrum today and inquired about their objection of discrimination.
To clarify his statement before the three-member bench, Danyal Aziz replied that he was talking about the cases currently being heard by the election commission of Pakistan.
“No such statement would be tolerated in future. The institutions should be strengthened,” remarked Mian Saqib Nisar.
He expressed that contempt of court would not be allowed under any condition and the apex court would put a complete ban on media talk if necessary.
Reportedly, Danyal Aziz tried to express his viewpoint in the sombre courtroom but the Chief Justice did not allow him to do so. PML-N’s counsel Akram Sheikh also advised Danyal to keep mum after which Danyal tendered an apology for his statement.
The remarks came amid the proceedings regarding the disqualification petitions against PTI chief Imran Khan and secretary general Jahangir Tareen filed by Haneef Abbasi.
