Iran fires mortar shells into Pakistan s territory

CHAGAI – Iranian border forces  fired five mortar shells into Pakistani territory across the border on Sunday, stirring chaos among the locals.

Fortunately, no casualty was reported as the shells did not hit any house on the Pakistani side. Taftan Assistant Commissioner Zafar Kubdani confirmed the incident.

“Five mortar shells fired from Iranian side early in the morning landed in Talap village,” he said.

“The mortar shells landed one kilometer inside Pakistani territory between border poles 104 and 106,” Mr Kubdani added.

There have been burgeoning incidents of Iranian forces firing mortar shells into Pakistani area. Pakistan also lodged a protest in February and March in this regard. Over the past few years, Pakistan has accused Iranian forces of violating its territorial integrity.

Pakistan shares a 900-kilometer long porous border with Iran and the two countries had in 2014 decided to boost intelligence coordination to stamp out terrorism from the border region.
