Pakistan committed to safe repatriation of Afghan refugees: Nasser Janjua

ISLAMABAD –  National Security Adviser (NSA) Lt Gen (retired) Nasser Janjua has reaffirmed that Pakistan was following the policy of respectful and safe repatriation of Afghan refugees.

Janjua stated this during a meeting with United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) country director Indrika Ratwatte on Friday.

Matters regarding management, regulation and return of Afghan refugees were discussed during the meeting.

The national security adviser highlighted that Pakistan had always remained supportive of Afghanistan and its people, adding that this will continue.

UNHC country director hailed the role of Pakistan in giving safe shelter to Afghan refugees for nearly four decades.

Both vowed to continue consultations regarding better management and safe return of the remaining refugees with the help of the international community.

Some 4.2 million Afghan refugees have returned to Afghanistan voluntarily under the UNHCR-funded voluntary repatriation programme since 2002.
