ISLAMABAD – The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has imposed a ban on four private universities from offering admissions to students in any academic programme, Dawn News reported.
This is the second warning issued by the HEC after the institutions continued to give admissions to students without addressing the discrepancies highlighted in 2016.
The HEC has barred Preston Institute of Management Sciences and Technology, Karachi, Imperial College of Business Studies, Lahore, Global Institute, Lahore, and Al-Khair University, AJK.
The authority has also stopped sub-campuses, branches and affiliated colleges of these varsities from offering admission.
The HEC had issued a public notice in the recent past alarming parents and students from taking admission in the four universities.
It further said that degrees obtained from these institutions and their sub-campuses will not be recognised by the HEC.
Following the directives of Prime Minister, HEC Review Panels visited universities in 2016 across the country to check the status of the quality assurance and governance practices, a statement from HEC stated.
After reviewing the institutions, the authority issued notices to universities whose report was not satisfactory asking them to overcome the deficiencies.
However, these universities failed to follow the directions despite several reminders; therefore, the HEC asked them to stop giving admission to students.
