Over 10,000 foreign degree holder doctors get permission to appear in PMDC exams

RAWALPINDI – Federal Ombudsman Syed Tahir Shahbaz has allowed over ten thousand foreign degree holder doctors to appear in the examination of Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC).

Under the decision, PMDC has been asked to hold examination of the council twice in a year so that those doctors who have obtained a foreign degree of MBBS could be registered as medical practitioner in Pakistan and could also get information about the examination schedule of PMDC, reports Online News Agency on Saturday.

Earlier, Pakistan Foreign Doctors Association head Dr Zohaib Shah had filed an application with the Federal Ombudsman. Giving details about the decision of Federal Ombudsman, Dr Fiaz Ahmed Ranjha told that PMDC has been bounded to issue calendars under Pakistan Medical and Dental Council Practitioners Regulation 2008 for holding examinations two times in a year. He said under section 60 all eligible candidates must be given permission to sit in the NEB examination and also issue NOC on case-to-case basis.

He said young doctors were facing various difficulties due to the suspension of the examination process. The Federal Ombudsman after hearing stance of all parties and concerned departments has decided that those doctors who passed FSc with 60% marks before 2009 and then obtained medical education from foreign institutions would also be eligible according to PMDC law, he added.-Online
