LAHORE – Hamza Shehbaz, the son of Chief Minister Punjab, Shehbaz Sharif appeared before the National Accountability Bureau on Friday regarding an ongoing corruption inquiry against the management of Punjab Saaf Pani Company (PSPC).
The chief minister’s son was sent a notice by the anti-corruption body last week, complying with which Hamza appeared at the bureau’s Lahore office.
According to the notice issued by the accountability watchdog, Hamza is in possession of crucial information about the company in question.
“The inquiry against management/officers/officials of Punjab Saaf Pani Company (South) and others has revealed that you are in possession of information/evidence whatsoever, which relates to the commission of the said offence(s),” the notice stated.
“Moreover, you attended various meetings related to issues pertaining to the affairs of Punjab Saaf Pani Company,” it added.
Besides Hamza, Chief Minister Punjab, Shehbaz Sharif has also been asked to appear before the accountability watchdog on June 4, in the same case.
Nothing New in NAB Investigations: Hamza
Talking to newsmen after being grilled by the anti-corruption body, Hamza Shehbaz expressed that there was nothing new for him in the investigations as he was used to it.
“Those who have not committed any wrongdoing don’t get scared by the investigations” observed the lawmaker.
He continued that there was no difference between Hamza Shehbaz and an ordinary man because not even an iota of corruption could be proved against him.
The legislator claimed that he was not a board member of the company in question, however, attended five sessions.
“I have spent six months in Adiala jail during the stint of former premier Benazir Bhutto,” revealed the lawmaker and added that the Swiss accounts of former president Asif Ali Zardari are not forgotten by the masses.
