ISLAMABAD – Minister of State for Housing and Works Muhammad Shabbir Ali Qureshi Wednesday informed the National Assembly that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government was planning to
start construction of houses under “Naya Pakistan Housing Project” in every district of the country.
Answering during question hour, he said in the first phase of the project, Faisalabad, Sukkur, Quetta, Swat, Muzaffarabad, Islamabad, and Gilgit had been selected for the launch of the project.
The minister said as per vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan, provision of shelter to the low-income people was the top priority of the government. “Under the first phase, construction of 10,000 houses would start in the beginning of the next year,” he said.
He assured Moulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali and Sahibzada Tariq Ullah for the start of construction of houses in their respective areas under this mega project in next phase.
It is pertinent to mention here that the above-mentioned parliamentarians were anxious to launch this people friendly housing scheme in their respective areas in order to benefit low-income class.
To a question, he said federal cabinet had imposed a ban on new construction of government accommodation in 1995. He said, mater of construction of government accommodation was taken up on public-private partnership and a proposal to demolish the existing government accommodation at Sector F-6/4 and construction of 10 storey flats in their place was submitted to the prime minister in 2016.
He said prime minister office had directed to resubmit the summary through cabinet division after
consulting all stakeholders.
He said capital administration and development division and the Capital Development Authority (CDA) were requested to furnish their views and response from them was still awaited.
The minister said the CDA was following its By-laws and Pakistan Building Codes: Seismic provisions-2017 had been meticulously formulated keeping in view the construction materials and methods prevalent in Pakistan and the latest scientific knowledge bases available in building codes internationally were adopted.
