KARACHI – In a major relief to the former president, a banking court on Tuesday extended the interim bail granted to Asif Ali Zardari and his sister, Faryal Talpur, on Tuesday.
The Pakistan Peoples Party co-chairman and his sister appeared before the baking court in the money laundering case amid tight surveillance.
After a brief hearing, Zardari and Talpur secured an extension in bail till December 10; Supreme Court is also investigating the money laundering case and it has formed a joint investigation team for a thorough probe with FIA playing a major role.
Federal Investigation Agency is investigating 32 people in relation to money laundering from fake accounts and as per the latest report, the amount laundered illegally amounts to Rs 100b.
Former president Zardari’s close aide Hussain Lawai as well as Anwar Majeed were arrested in connection with the probe that is nearing an end in next few days.

During the hearing in apex court on Monday, Additional Attorney General Nayyar Rizvi informed the court that the joint investigation team (JIT) tasked to probe the alleged money laundering had submitted a progress report on Omni Group’s bank accounts.
Expressing his satisfaction over the JIT’s progress, Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar remarked that he realised the JIT’s task was not easy but at the same time, the court could not adjourn the case hearing for an indefinite time.
