MUZAFFARGARH (Web Desk) – A 47-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped in collaboration of members of a Panchayat (local village council) on Friday in Lundi Pitafi village near Jatoi area of Muzaffargarh district.
N* was summoned to a session of the village council where she was due to argue in favour of his brother-in-law, who was accused of having an illicit relationship with another villager’s daughter.
The unnamed woman decided to prove the allegation as concocted, when her brother-in-law went into hiding fearing rage of locals just ahead of a raid of Panchayat members on January 27, Express Tribune reported citing its sources.
The village council set January 28 as hearing date when N* was asked to present her statement before the locals.
On January 28 (Friday), when N* reached told location along with five of her male family members. She was requested by the council’s members to go inside a nearby house where other females of the area were also said to be waiting for the Panchayat to convene its session.
When N* reached the house, at least five men present inside house, allegedly beat her up and gang-raped her under supervision of members of Panchaiyat.
Hearing N*’s crying voice, when her family reached inside the house, they found her severely wounded. Meanwhile the rapists and members of Panchayat successfully fled the site.
Later the victim and her family approached police check post in Lundi Pitafi to file a complaint. At which they were asked to go to Mir Hazar Khan police station to lodge an FIR in this case.
When reached the police station, family was informed that SHO Nasrullah Khan was not present. On the next day, police officials told them that they could not register an FIR in this case until medical test was conducted.
The victim is expected to undergo medical examination today (Monday).
On the other hand the victim’s family has threatened that if medical test was not conducted or FIR was not registered the culprits, they will protest in front of the police station and approach top officials.
