SARGODHA – In an attempt to impart basic education to those who can neither afford nor dream of it, Sargodha commissioner is setting up non-formal basic education centres for the marginalised community of the society – the nomads – particularly the women of the nomadic community.
Women nomads were recently enrolled at adult literacy centres for nomads by the Sargodha divisional administration in collaboration with Punjab literacy and non-formal basic education department, said a press release here on Thursday.
Initially, two centres in the Sargodha district and one each in Khushab, Mianwali and Bhakkar have been set up near the nomads’ dwellings. The learning material is being provided to the women participating from these marginalised sections of the society by the authorities.
The Sargodha commissioner is determined to set up more centres soon. In line with the Punjab chief minister’s vision, the Sargodha commissioner has also taken initiatives to facilitate female students in extracurricular activities in the division.
As per the facts of the literacy and non-formal basic education department of the province, owing to the establishment and operations of 6146 adult literacy centres, 465,308 adults are being provided with basic education, while 1080 adult literacy centres have been established in 36 districts within 2016-17.- PR
