ISLAMABAD – The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has directed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan to appear before the commission on September 14 in a contempt of court case.
A written order issued by the poll body on Thursday said that an inquiry will be launched against Khan on not appearing before the ECP.
On August 19, ECP while issuing a show cause notice to the PTI chief directed him to submit reply by August 23.
On August 16, the commission had rejected a petition filed by Khan challenging the jurisdiction of the ECP to take up contempt case.
It is important to mention here that the ECP had issued the first contempt notice to Khan on January 24 this for giving objectionable comments about the commission.
Meanwhile, the Islamabad High Court on August 29 had reserved its verdict on a petition filed by the PTI against the ECP’s decision to carry on contempt proceedings..
Counsel for PTI, Anwar Mansoor while presenting the arguments said that the ECP is crossing its limits.
