LAHORE – Following the recent rise in petroleum prices, public transport operators across the country have significantly increased fares.
Reports said that intercity bus fares have been increased by up to 65 percent. Passengers traveling between major cities now face additional costs ranging from Rs1,000 to Rs2,500.
Under the new fare structure, the cost of travel from Lahore to Islamabad has increased from Rs3,000 to Rs4,000, while fares from Lahore to Peshawar have surged from Rs3,500 to Rs4,600.
Similarly, travel from Lahore to Sargodha now costs Rs2,550 instead of Rs1,550, and Lahore to Faisalabad has increased from Rs1,350 to Rs2,350.
Commuters traveling to Karachi have also been hit hard, with fares from Lahore rising from Rs8,600 to Rs12,000, and Lahore to Hyderabad increasing from Rs9,200 to Rs13,000.
Furthermore, Lahore to Murree fare has surged to Rs4,500 from Rs3,300 and Lahore to Multan Rs3,700.
Transport operators justified the fare increases, citing higher fuel costs and rising prices of spare parts. They warned that without these adjustments, operating vehicles would become unsustainable, potentially forcing them to halt services altogether.
