ISLAMABAD – A Pakistani athlete, who is aspiring to master Brazilian martial art game, Jiu-Jitsu is struggling hard to materialize his dream by putting extra hours in the game.
Shehryar Qureshi, who has won Silver and Gold in Malaysia, Gold in Pakistan and Bronze twice at Nationalsm, is pursuing his dream with passion, resilience and hardwork.
Although he has achieved the feat of securing multiple awards and recognitions after starting jiu jitsu relatively later than prodigies usually do in life, Qureshi is determined to bag even more titles.
He did not achieve excellence in the Mixed Martial Arts through run off the mill practice; his routine is daunting as he works as an accountant to make money and then channelizes the money to feed his passion for Jiu Jitsu, with high hopes that his passion would eventually transform into his profession.
A glimpse of how much he is exerting to achieve the glory on the world stage is the fact that he invests around 3-4 hours after he has worked for around 10 hours as an accountant.
As Pakistan’s sports rainbow is devoid of the colour of Jiu Jitsu, Shehryar is not sponsored by anyone, virtually leaving him with no option than to pump money earned through full-time job, into his passion.
In a bid to excel in the field, he has fought in cages, grappled on grass and endured infinite physical pain to get to the next levels of his career in jiu jitsu.
The story of Shehryar Qureshi serves as the best example of how to cross barriers and break the glass ceiling, even when the ground realities are obstructing the path to success.
