LAHORE – More than one dozen flights at the different airports of the Pakistan have been cancelled or delayed, as the country faced slow internet browsing on the second day after ‘outage in international submarine cable systems providing internet bandwidth.’
Eight national and international flights were cancelled at Benazir Bhutto International Airport Islamabad while five flight cancelled at Allam Iqbal Airport Lahore owing to slow internet system.
A Manchester-bound national carrier flight 701 and Islamabad to Dubai private flights were cancelled, reports Geo TV on Sunday.
Internet services in different parts of the country were disrupted early Saturday owing to a major fault in the international cable system IMV.
Internet subscribers reportedly faced difficulties in browsing due to the disruption in the 13000km-long IMV cable — extending from India till France — that was affected by a technical fault near Jeddah.
PTCL General Manager Imran Janjua told the media that the fault occurred near Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. “A team representing the international consortium has been activated to diagnose the fault and remove this.
“The team will submit a report disclosing cause of the fault and the estimated time required for repair.
“The repair would definitely take a few days depending upon nature of the fault,” he said.
Internet users may continue to face the situation for quite a long time, as another cable SEA-ME-WE4, also owned by PTCL, is already under repair by an international consortium for over one-month now.
