Samsung has introduced an impressive new line of QLED displays aimed at “virtual competition” and set to “deliver the ultimate gaming experience”. Leading the pack is the ultra-wide 49-inch curved CHG90, which sports a 32:9 aspect ratio, 3,840×1,080 double full HD (DFHD), a 144hz screen refresh rate, and four-channel scanning technology that deters motion blur throughout the entirety of its impressively elongated screen.
Launching alongside the CHG90 are the CHG70 monitors, which come in at a more modest (and much less rockstar, really) 27 and 32 inches.
All three monitors are HDR-enabled and utilize Samsung’s pioneering Quantum Dot standard. Additionally, they’ll be some of the first gaming displays to support AMD’s new Radeon FreeSync 2 technology.
Samsung says that this functionality “combines smooth, stutter- and tear-free gaming with low-latency, high-brightness, high-contrast visuals, as well as excellent black levels and support for a wide color gamut to showcase HDR content with twice the perceivable brightness and color of that offered by the sRGB standard.”
Upon its release, the CHG90 will be the widest gaming monitor available, and it seems the electronics giant is hoping to eliminate the problems that gamers have with linking multiple, separate screens together in attempts to widen their play and view area.
The 49-inch CHG90, which is available for pre-order now on Amazon.com and at local Micro Center retail stores, will set you back an admittedly steep $1499.
The 32-inch CHG70, on the other hand, which is available for pre-order exclusively on Newegg.com, is a slightly more reasonable $699. And that cute 27-inch display? Samsung’s powerful runt is available for pre-order on Samsung.com for $599.
CHG90’s specs and features
- The CHG90 uses a VA LCD panel, which is an ultrafast panel with a response time of only one millisecond. That might not mean much to someone who mostly uses computers for work, but gamers who play fast-paced games could appreciate the CHG90’s minimal response time.
- It has a refresh rate of 144 hertz, which means each pixel can refresh 144 times per second, and makes for high-frame-rate gaming – if your graphics card can handle high frame rates.
- It uses quantum-dot technology from Samsung’s HDTV lineup for better brightness and color accuracy than regular LCD monitors.
- It also features HDR10 for even better colors and contrast.
- It’s the first monitor to feature AMD’s FreeSync 2 technology, which helps your PC’s graphics card communicate with the monitor for smoother gameplay without screen tearing or stuttering.
