LAHORE – The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is reviewing names in order to form a team that is likely to visit London and Dubai in the coming days to gather evidence of assets owned by the Sharif family in foreign countries.
Sharif family members, including former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, his children — Maryam, Hussain and Hassan Nawaz — and his son-in-law Captain (retd) Safdar, who landed in hot water since the apex court took up the Panamagate case, are now being tried by the accountability court on corruption charges.
The corruption cases regarding Avenfield apartment in London, Al-Azizia Steel Mills, and Hill Metal Establishment are being investigated by Lahore and Rawalpindi NAB.
A team comprising 3 to 4 members will visit foreign countries under mutual legal agreement to collect crucial evidence for Sharif family assets.
Earlier, the NAB had written letters to United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Saudi Arabia to get supporting documents in the cases and in response received some important papers.
From UK, it has not received any reply yet; therefore, the team will visit in person to collect necessary information for a transparent probe.
Sources revealed that Volume X of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT), which had investigated Panama case, has provided crucial information in this regard.
Following the perpetual arrest warrants for Hassan and Hussain issued by the NAB court, the anti-graft watchdog has reportedly contacted Ministry of Interior to take up the matter with Interpol for getting red warrants against them.
However, it is unclear whether the team has been given authority to approach the Interpol for their arrest.
On Monday, the court adjourned the cases till October 13 summoning Nawaz, Maryam and Safdar for indictment, besides separating cases of Hassan and Hussain.
