ISLAMABAD (Staff Report) – While Director General Intelligence Bureau Wednesday told a standing committee that hundreds of Pakistanis were joining Middle East based Islamic State group, the Foreign Office has Thursday once again denied the terrorist organisation’s presence in Pakistan.
Addressing a weekly briefing, the Foreign Office spokesman Nafees Zakariya said that he could not directly comment on yesterday’s statement of DG Intelligence Bureau, however the Interior Ministry will approached to seek an explanation in this regard.
To a question he maintained that Islamic State was banned to function inside Pakistan and that the country was part of regional fight against terrorism. “There is not organisational presence of Islamic State group in Pakistan,” he stated categorically.
According to the spokesman, a detailed roadmap for direct talks between Taliban and Afghan government was devised in last quadrilateral meeting and it would be thoroughly reviewed in forthcoming meeting in Kabul.
About the findings of Pathankot attack investigation in Pakistan, the spokesman said that he was not aware of any new development in this case.
Responding to a query about meeting of foreign secretaries of Pakistan and India for resumption bilateral dialogue, he said said that both countries were in touch in this regard and the meeting will take place at some suitable time.
About Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s Qatar tour, the Foreign Office spokesperson said that Pakistan and Qatar have signed an agreement of LNG import which will help the first in combating its energy crisis.
