ISLAMABAD — Pakistan’s capital city is set to host Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) conference next week, with special security arrangements made for the big event including closure of main arteries in twin cities.

A special traffic plan has been chalked out for traffic management plan to ensure smooth movement during SCO moot from October 14 to 16. Rawalpindi CTO Benish Fatima announced that over a dozen DSPs, 73 senior traffic wardens, 536 traffic wardens and assistants, and over 600 officers will be deployed.

To facilitate VVIP movement in garrison city, no traffic will be allowed from Chauhan Chowk to Airport Road.

Heavy vehicles will also be prohibited from entering the city as part of a strategic diversion plan. Traffic headed to Koral will be rerouted from Chauhan Chowk to Rawal Road, Shaheen Chowk, and Murree Road.

Traffic from Jhanda Mor to Amar Chowk will be redirected to Scheme 3 or Kachari Chowk, while vehicles traveling from Amar Chowk to Chauhan Chowk will take the route via Rahimabad.

Those moving from Annexe Chowk to Amar Chowk need to move through Jhanda Road to Rashid Minhas Road. Other diversions include traffic from Mushtaq Baig Shaheed Road to Airport Road, which will be redirected to Kachhari Chowk, and traffic from Mall Road to Kachhari Chowk, which will go via Panj Sattar and Shalimar Chowk.
