LAHORE – Punjab Police have barred on-duty officers and personnel from using social media, making videos, and uploading them on different portals.
The new rules were announced on directions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz who imposed ban on cops for using TikTok, Facebook, and other sites during duty hours.
The decision stemmed from recent viral controversy featuring Punjab police officers and female personnel. At the directions of CM Maryam Nawaz, Inspector General (IG) of Punjab Police introduced a new policy that prohibits such activities, with strict consequences for officers who post content in uniform.
The policy, outlined by the AIG Operations, requires officers to seek approval from the District Police Officer (DPO) or unit head before engaging in any social media use. It also restricts officers from posting personal, political, or religious opinions online and mandates that all official police communications be handled through the designated official channels.
Furthermore, the use of police vehicles and premises for social media purposes is banned, and enforcement of these rules is the responsibility of Regional Police Officers (RPOs) and unit heads, per reports.
The ban is intended to prevent video recording at sensitive locations and maintain focus on duties. While mobile phones can still be brought into police stations, officers are restricted from using them during their shifts.
