ISLAMABAD – Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has nominated Senator Sherry Rehman as the party’s opposition leader in the Senate.
In a tweet message, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said PPP is ready to make history again and Senator Sherry Rehman will be the first woman to lead the opposition in the Upper House.

With the nomination of Sherry Rehman as the Opposition Leader in the Senate, the PPP has also started lobbying for her as earlier in the day, a PPP delegation met FATA Senators in a bid to bag their support in favour of Sherry Rehman.
The PPP delegation also included the newly elected Deputy Chairman Senate Saleem Mandviwala and the Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah among others.
The PPP has 20 Senators in the Upper House, and recently it along with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) won a major political battle against the ruling alliance as the opposition-backed Sadiq Sanjrani and Saleem Mandviwala were elected for the Chairmanship and the Deputy Chairmanship of the Senate.
Meanwhile talking to media, the PTI Spokesman Fawad Chaudhry said his party would nominate its own candidate for the Opposition Leader in the Senate.
Fawad Chaudhry said they were in contact with FATA and Independent Senators. He said the PPP did not consult with the PTI in the nomination of Sherry Rehman.
