FIA questions federal ministers in money laundering case

ISLAMABAD – The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) questioned on Tuesday two federal ministers in a money laundering case.

Federal Minister for Law Farogh Naseem belonging to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s MQM-P leader and Information Technology and Telecommunication (IT) Minister Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui were questioned by investigation authorities.

The Law minister Naseem is accused of transferring Rs268,000 in MQM’s charity wing, Khidmat-e-Khalq Foundation (KKF). Furthermore, the party is accused of carrying out money laundering using KKF’s accounts.

Earlier last week, FIA’s counter-terrorism wing had sent notices to hundreds of people working in the party. The agency also instructed them to get in touch with its Islamabad office.

The MQM-P workers are accused of depositing large sums of money of over Rs1 billion in the foundation’s accounts.

It is worth mentioning here that a case had been registered against MQM’s founder and KKF in October 2016 but was transferred to the FIA later.
