ISLAMABAD – Pakistan is hosting Council of Heads of Government (CHG) of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and foreign dignitaries have started arriving in the capital city.

Security was heightened in twin cities, with armed forces and other agencies deployed in the wake of inputs about possible attempts at disruptions by PTI.

Ahead of the leading summit, Indian delegation comprising on 4-member, and a 76-member delegation from Russia, along with representatives from China, Kyrgyzstan, and Iran landed in a fortified city.

Deputy PM Dar confirmed that several countries excluding New Delhi requested for bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the moot.

To foolproof security, the country imposed all-out measures, with armed forces, paramilitary and anti-riots deployed across the capital. Public transportation, including the metro bus service in Islamabad and Rawalpindi remains suspended during the summit.

The federal government further announced 3-day holidays in schools, offices, educational institutions, and commercial centers in capital, while all marriage halls will remain closed to facilitate the event.

SCO summit preparations face potential disruption as Imran Khan’s party PTI party plans to stage protest in Islamabad on October 15, adding complexity to security and traffic management for the high-profile event.
