RIO DE JANEIRO (News Desk) – World’s fastest running man, Usain Bolt, on Sunday, became the first athlete to win three Olympic 100m titles as he claimed Gold Medal at Rio 2016.
The Jamaican athlete finished in just 9.81 seconds in his final Olympics replicating his success at Beijing 2008 and London 2012.
America’s Justin Gatlin finished 0.08 seconds behind Bolt to take silver. Canada’s Andre de Grasse took bronze in a personal best of 9.91, ahead of Bolt’s Jamaican team-mate Yohan Blake.
Talking to newsmen following the historic win, Bolt said: “This is what we train for. I told you guys I was going to do it, stay tuned, two more to go.”
He went on to say “Somebody said I can become immortal. Two more medals to go and I can sign off. Immortal.”
The Sunday night’s victory has taken Usain Bolt one more step closer to his goal of winning a historic “triple-triple” combination of gold in the 100m, 200m and the 4x100m relay in three consecutive Olympics.
Other than the 2011 world championships, when he was disqualified for a false start, Bolt has won every other global championship individual sprint race since 2008.
