LAHORE – The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday issued a pre-admission notice to former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and 13 provincial and federal lawmakers on a petition, seeking contempt of court proceedings against them.
Justice Mamoon Rasheed Sheikh while hearing the case asked the counsel for petitioner as to why the court should hear the case.
The petitioner alleged that the ousted premier, during his GT Road rally from Islamabad to Lahore, slammed the judiciary and incited the public against the apex court and state institutions. The court was also pleaded to initiate treason proceedings against him.
The applicant stated that the court should ensure the implementation of the Constitution.

The court served notices to federal minister Daniyal Aziz, Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah, Railways Minister Saad Rafique, Senator Asif Kirmani, Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif, minister of state Talal Chaudhry, minister of state Abid Sher Ali and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Pemra chairman and others.
The Pemra head has also been directed to submit records of speeches of the respondents.
Responding to a question, the petitioner said that Pemra was informed many times but no action was taken in this regard.
The court has adjourned the case till August 25.
GT Road Rally
After being disqualified by the Supreme Court on July 28, Nawaz Sharif announced to put his case before the people of Pakistan.
He kicked off his journey home in the shape of a motorcade from Islamabad to Lahore on August 9 and reached his destination on August 12. During his journey, he addressed his supporters at different spots.
at Gujranwala, Nawaz asked his supporters: “Should this even be called disqualification?”
“Will you bring back Pakistan’s honour?” he asked his supporters. “Will you demand that your vote hold its value?” he asked to resounding cheers.

“There have been conspiracies for the past three and a half years. When our progress sped up, the conspiracies also sped up.”
“There is [still] no allegation of corruption against me. There is not a rupee of corruption linked to my name — even those who disqualified me admit that,” he claimed. “Then why did they remove me?”
“Does the vote of 200 million count for nothing?” he asked.
“If there is any value in your vote, you will have to hold these people accountable,” he urged.
“All those who gave the verdict [against me], look at Gujranwala’s verdict!” he raged. “They do not accept it!”
At Lahore, he said: “All prime ministers were removed. Were all of them corrupt,” asked Nawaz.
He asked if the dictators who “have eaten away 30 years of Pakistan” will ever be held accountable.
He implored his supporters to take a stand against this treatment of prime ministers, saying “there is no country [in the world] like Pakistan where there is no importance of the votes of the masses”.
