DUBAI – Former President General (retired) Pervez Musharraf has uncovered a secret conversation with a former Chief Justice of Pakistan to obtain a favourable decision on a case regarding privatization of the Pakistan Steel Mills.
Talking to a private news channel, Musharraf claimed that he and then Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry had agreed to support the privatization of the state-owned mills, but he backtracked when the time came.
Explaining the event, the former president said that Chaudhry visited him at his house after becoming the Chief Justice and asked him about his wishes regarding the decision in presence of then attorney general Makhdoom Ali Khan.
“On this offer, a thought knocked at my mind that Chaudhry is not a good man, but at the same time, I was happy that privatization of the factory will not be stopped,” he added.
He further said that the judge deceived him on the day of verdict as he ordered to halt decentralization of the steel mills. Musharraf said the same mill is now the defaulter of billions of rupees.
