THE HAGUE: The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has rejected a plea filed by India seeking six months’ time for filing pleadings in Kulbhushan Jadhav, an Indian spy served with death sentence.
The court has directed it to file a pleading by September 13, while Pakistan has been given time until December 13 to submit counter-pleadings to the court.
Attorney General (AG) Ashtar Ausaf Ali on Thursday talking to media said that Pakistani authorities had been informed regarding the development in the case by ICJ’s registrar through its consulate in Netherlands.

Pakistan had asked the court that the matter of filing of pleadings in the case ought to be completed by the end of this year.
The international court took up the matter in chambers on June 8, wherein the attorney general presented arguments opposing India’ plea and asked the court to expedite proceedings in the case.
ICJ’s Ruling
UN’s judicial arm stayed the execution of RAW agent Kalbhushan Jadhav on May 18 and requested consular access to him.
“Pakistan shall take necessary measures to ensure that Jadhav is not executed until the final decision in these proceedings and shall inform the court all the measures taken in implementation of the court’s order,” the order stated.
