SC orders re-election in PP-232 Vehari, de-seats PML-N incumbent

ISLAMABAD (Staff Report) – Supreme Court of Pakistan on Monday ordered the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to hold by-elections in PP-232 Vehari, a constituency of the Punjab Assembly.

In the verdict, the apex court upheld the Election Tribunal’s decision to unseat Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz MPA Muhammad Yousaf Kaselya. The tribunal had declared his election null and void for hiding property details.

Mr Kaselya had won the seat in 2013 General Elections as an independent candidate. He bagged 50,260 votes. His opponent Peer Ghulam Mohy Ud Din Chishti of PML-N got some 43,000 votes.

Later on,  Muhammad Yousaf Kaselya formally announced to join Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz. He is the Chairman of the Standing Committee on Excise & Taxation in the Punjab Assembly.
