LHC to hear petition seeking PM Imran s disqualification today

LAHORE – The Lahore High Court (LHC) is set to hear a petition seeking the disqualification of Prime Minister Imran Khan over inciting people in the past.

Justice Shams Mehmood will hear the petition filed by Advocate AK Dogar on the behalf of Lawyer’s Foundation for Justice.

Making the prime minister and federal government respondent in the case, the petitioner has accused the premier of inciting public for civil disobedience during the tenure of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.

He argued that the premier cannot hold a seat of the parliament due to the cited reason.

“Imran had urged people to neither pay taxes nor send foreign remittances,” the petition added. Further, it said, “Imran along with his supporters stormed towards the Parliament House and smashed its gates.”

He pleaded the court to declare Khan disqualify as he was involved in activities against Pakistan’s sovereignty and political system.

In September, the Supreme Court had dismissed a constitutional petition seeking the disqualification of Prime Minister Imran Khan for “not being Sadiq (truthful) and Ameen (righteous)”.

The petition, filed by PML-N leader Daniyal Chaudhry last year, contended that Khan’s version of his ‘love child’ Tyrian Jade White was against common sense, moral laws and they did not coincide with Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution.

During the hearing, Danyal Chaudhry appeared along with his counsel, who stated that the petition had become infructuous and he would like to approach the high court on the matter.

“No one is stopping [you from] approaching the high court,” Justice Ijazul Ahsan, a member of the bench had remarked.
