SUKKUR – Opposition Leader in National Assembly Khurshid Shah on Saturday said that the ruling party, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had no option but to follow the decision of the Supreme Court in the Panama Papers case.
The statement comes a day after the apex court rejected the review petitions filed by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, his children, son-in-law and Ishaq Dar against the July 28 verdict.
Talking to the media in Sukkur, Shah said there are no permanent friends and enemies in politics.
Regarding Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s (PTI) efforts to replace him, he said it is the democratic right of the PTI to bring a new opposition leader in the Assembly, adding that the elimination of the differences between MQM-Pakistan and PTI is a good omen.
On new NAB chairman, the opposition leader said that discussion has been held with political parties including PTI, Jamat e Islami, MQM and others in this regard but no name has come so far.
He said that PPP, PML-N and other parties are agreed to reduce the tenure of elected assembly to four years.
It emerged on Thursday that the PTI has started contacting opposition parties to unite them in order to bring a new opposition leader before the caretaker government set up before the general election 2018. The efforts were aimed at nipping any deal between PPP and ruling party to influence the elections in the bud, said sources.
It is important to mention here that the caretaker government is formed in consultation between the opposition and incumbent government.
Therefore, the PTI, which hold 27 seats in the lower house, is also in contact with MQM-P that has 22 seats in order to replace PPP’s opposition leader.
