PESHAWAR – Torkham crossing between Pakistan and Afghanistan remained closed for the second consecutive day on Saturday after two blasts near the border that left nine injured, including six security officials.
According to local media, the authorities have issued order to close the crossing for every kind of traffic till further orders. The Nato supply and other trade activities have been suspended due to the closure.
Around 100 to 110 Afghan transit trade containers are cleared daily at Torkham, while several people cross over the border everyday. The entire process has been closed temporarily after the terrorist activity.
On Friday, two consecutive blasts caused by hand grenades occurred at Torkham near the gate installed at the border.
The explosions left nine people including six Frontier Constabulary personnel and a child injured who have been shifted to the Combined Military Hospital, Peshawar.
After the blasts, the security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation in the adjoining areas.
