Qandeel Baloch s murder: Mufti Abdul Qavi makes first appearance in court

MULTAN – Mufti Abdul Qavi on Tuesday made his maiden appearance before a session court in Multan to attend hearing of Qandeel Baloch murder case.

Mufti Qavi, who has obtained a pre-arrest bail, appeared before Sessions Judge Chaudhry Ameer Ahmad Khan but no proceedings could be done as his counsel sought time for preparation.

However, the judge adjourned the case for tomorrow (Wednesday) accepting his request.

Talking to journalists, Qavi said that he appeared before the court following the orders, adding that he was ready to cooperate with police and the court.

Qavi’s name was included in the killing of the social media celebrity as a suspect following the request of the model’s father, Muhammad Azeem.

Later, Judicial Magistrate Muhammad Pervaiz Khan had issued non-bailable warrants for him after he according to the police failed to cooperate with official in probe.

However, Judge Ameer Ahmad Khan last week granted pre-arrest bail to the cleric against a surety bond of Rs100,000.

Qandeel Baloch’s Murder

Qandeel Baloch became a social media star in Pakistan after her risque posts on social media garnered attention.

The celebrity, hailing from Multan, uploaded pictures alongside Mufti Abdul Qavi as she met him at a hotel.

Qavi was lampooned after the pictures stormed the internet but a few days later Qandeel Baloch was strangled to death by her brother for ‘honour’.

Mufti Abdul Qavi denied any sort of involvement in the murder, however, the cleric has been under the radar of police ever since Baloch’s murder.

In July, the Multan-based scholar had alleged that a lawyer was dragging him into the case but claimed that “lawyers and the laws in Pakistan, all are with me.”

“My name is not in the FIR registered for Qandeel’s murder, but I will present myself to the police whenever they call me for more information,” he had said.
