PM Abbasi arrives in London to meet Nawaz Sharif ahead of UNGA session

LONDON – Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi arrived in London on Saturday evening to meet former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to discuss various critical issues.

The premier made a stop-over along with his cabinet members en route to New York where he would participate in the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) commencing from September 18.

High Commissioner Syed Ibne Abbas together with other officials welcomed Abbasi who will be leading Pakistan’s delegation at the UNGA.

Talking to newsmen outside his hotel, the premier confirmed that he will be meeting Nawaz Sharif on Sunday.

Abbasi is accompanied by Finance minister Ishaq Dar, Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif, Speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq and Secretary to the PM Fawad Hussain Fawad.

After brainstorming with his ousted boss, the premier would be leaving for New York where he will address the Council on Foreign Relations and hold bilateral meetings with a number of world leaders on the sidelines of the session.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s most crucial meeting, subject to possibility, would be with US Vice President Mike Pence.

That would be the first high-level interaction between US and Pakistan after the announcement of visibly harsh Afghan policy by US President Donald Trump.
