ISLAMABAD – In order to fulfill its promise to recover ill-gotten money of Pakistanis stashed in foreign bank accounts, the federal government has drafted a law to take legal action against the looters.
Minister for Law Farogh Naseem revealed it while talking to a private news channel, adding that law about mutual legal assistance will be enforced through act or ordinance.
Talking about the cases against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his family members, he said that prosecution’s duty is to highlight illegal assets of suspects while the holders of these assets are liable to provide money trail of them.

The development regarding drafting a law against illegal money comes after the government has formed a high-powered task force comprising officials of the Federal Investigation Agency, National Accountability Bureau as well as intelligence agencies to recover the looted money from abroad.
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) would be more strengthened, instead of reducing its powers, Naseem said.
The law minister opposed any amendments to Article 184 (3) of the Constitution, which authorises the Supreme Court to take action on violation of fundamental rights and to initiate suo motu cases, adding that respondents in the suo motu cases should not be given right to appeal.
He said that the apex court has authority to use executive powers.
Naseem emphasized on a need to amend the laws for transfer and removal of judges, adding that procedure to remove judges on misconduct should also be altered.
Talking about the case against Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav at the Internation Court of Justice, he said that Pakistan was fighting it with full strength.
