Accountability court extends Khawaja bothers’ judicial remand till May 2

LAHORE – An accountability court in Lahore has extended judicial remand of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Khawaja Saad Rafique and his brother Khawaja Salman Rafique till May 2 in the Paragon Housing Society scam case.

A heavy contingent of police was deployed around the court where the Khawaja brothers were produced before the accountability judge on completion of their previous 14-day judicial remand.

According to the media reports, the court expressed displeasure over the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for not filing reference in the case.

Meanwhile, party workers scuffled with officers and security personnel outside the court.

Last year in December, the NAB had arrested the Khawaja brothers from Lahore High Court (LHC) premises when their request for an extension in pre-arrest bail in the case was rejected.

The Khawaja brothers have been accused of embezzling nearly Rs2 billion.

Earlier on Feb 2, the court had rejected a request made by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for another extension in the physical remand of the Khawaja brothers in the case and sent them on 14-day judicial remand which ended on Feb 16.
