Sharifs give no hoot to NAB summons

LAHORE – Ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his sons on Friday did not appear before the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to join investigations despite issuance of summons.

A heavy contingent had been deployed at NAB office in Lahore following the expected appearance of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, his sons and others.

The NAB had issued notices to members of Sharif family to appear before the accountability body to join investigation into the Al-Azizia Steel Mills case.

Moreover, PM’s cousin Tariq Shafi and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar have also been summoned by the NAB at 3pm today.

On the other hand, PML-N Senator Asif Kirmani in a statement on Thursday said that neither Nawaz Sharif nor his sons will appear before the NAB in Lahore as they had not received any summons.

Besides, it also emerged that former premier decided during a meeting with close aides yesterday that no appearance will be made until review petition against Panama Papers case verdict is settled.

It is unclear yet whether Tariq Shafi and Ishaq Dar will appear before the anti-graft watchdog or not.

However, the NAB authorities on Friday clarified that notice regarding summons of Nawaz Sharif had been made receive at Jati Umra residence, adding that security has been tightened after the summons, ARY News reported.

Moreover, the NAB has received certified copies of classified Volume X of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) report regarding Panama Papers case from the Supreme Court. The accountability bureau has also decided to avail the services of JIT’s members Wajid Zia and Irfan Mangi.
