ISLAMABAD – Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) on Wednesday granted 10 more days to police in order to complete investigation into Tayyaba torture case.
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar resumed the hearing of the case in which special investigation unit submitted a report declaring Maheen, wife of additional session judge, as culprit. The report states that the judge was also involved in the crime indirectly.
The Chief Justice remarked that there was no doubt that a criminal offense has been committed. He also directed the police to present a challan in the case.
The police asked the court to grant more time to complete the investigation as submission of child maid’s DNA report would take two to three days.
During the hearing, the counsel for accused Maheem also presented documents seeking bail on which the CJP said that this could mean that anyone who beat children could get away by applying for bail.
Justice Umar Ata Bandial said that this case involved child labour, child abuse and the role of parents.
Earlier, National Forensic Science Agency (NFSA) of Islamabad verified the DNA report of Tayyaba and her parents. It was found that Mohammad Azam and Nusrat Bibi are the real parents of Tayyaba.
The judge and his wife are both facing charges of hiring and torturing 10-year-old girl Tayyaba.
