ISLAMABAD – Pakistan has sent first humanitarian relief aid to Iran, which suffered significant damage after a powerful earthquake last Sunday.
A 7.3-magnitude earthquake jolted the western province of Kermanshah and the regions bordering Iraq on last week leaving at least 430 people dead and over 9,000 injured in Iran. At least 7 people were killed and 535 injured in Iraq.
The Pakistan Air Force C-130 aircraft reached Tehran’s Mehrabad International Airport on Friday carrying the first consignment of aid to be distributed among the quake victims.
Pakistani Ambassador to Iran Asif Ali Khan Durrani, along with Red Crescent Society of Iran staff, received the aid.
The consignment consists of the items identified by the Iranian officials for the relief in the quake-hit area.
The shipment includes 165 tents, 1050 blankets, 200 tarpaulins, 200 plastic mats, perishable items and other supplies.
President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi had expressed grief over the loss of the human lives and sent their messages of solidarity with the Iranian people. They also offered all possible assistance by Pakistan in this disaster.
