IB breached privacy for national security 1.134 million times in three years

ISLAMABAD  – Country’s top intelligence agency Intelligence Bureau (IB) breached privacy of civilians 1.134 million times in last three years for the sake of “National Security”, it has been learnt.

The flabbergasting revelation was made before a senate committee under the chair of Senator Talha Mehmood on Tuesday when Director general IB  Aftab Sultan admitted that phone calls and SMS were under the radar of the agency for national security.

Shedding light on the efficiency of the agency he explained that during the last three years, over 5,000 intelligence-based operations were carried out across Pakistan and 865 terrorists were collared while 171 killed.

Aftab Sultan said that security issues at airports had been pointed out and technical assistance was also extended to the law-enforcement agencies regarding this. On this occasion, Nadra chairman Usman Yousaf Mubeen told the meeting that a committee had been constituted with regards to the Pakistanis whose CNICs had been blocked.

He also told the committee that India’s spy agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) and the National Directorate of Security (DNS) of Afghanistan were active against the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.

The IB Official went on to claim that the agency was keeping an eye on the militants aimed at targeting the multi-billion Dollar CPEC.
