Tainted PTI lawmakers rubbish allegations of horse-trading in Senate elections

PESHAWAR – Scores of legislators from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf have rejected the allegations of horse-trading, in the recently concluded Senate elections, vowing to take legal against party chief Imran Khan.

A day after the cricketer-turned-politician named and shamed 20 lawmakers from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for allegedly receiving huge sums of money in the Senate elections, the lawmakers addressed press conferences, claiming that the allegations against them were a conspiracy.

Substantiating their claims of honesty, PTI MPAs Fozia Bibi from Chitral and Meraj Humayun said they had supported PTI candidates in the Senate elections.

Fozia Bibi alleged that some people within the party were involved in her character assassination, claiming that she had planned to sue some online publications for filing false reports.

The MPA continued that she had written a letter to the Election Commission of Pakistan, seeking a probe into the matter.

“Chief Minister Pervez Khattak and his ‘cronies had ensnared’ me for own face-saving on the matter,” alleged the legislator.

Ms Fozia also demanded the party chairman to refer the matter to the National Accountability Bureau for probe.

“I am ready to prove my innocence on oath. and those found guilty of horse-trading should be punished,” said the lawmaker.

Meanwhile, MPA Meraj Humayun also rejected the horse-trading allegation adding that she joined the PTI after the Senate elections, and therefore, the PTI had no right to level such serious corruption allegation.

“I was not bound to poll vote to the PTI candidate at that time,” she asserted.

The politician added that she had voted for the PTI and QWP candidate due to the alliance between the PTI and QWP in the Senate polls.

“The PTI leadership better had called her for clarification on the matter. I would decide the future course of action after receiving the show cause notice from the PTI.” said the provincial lawmaker.

Apart from the female legislators, PTI MPA from Haripur, Faisal Zaman also denied horse-trading charge and claimed he voted for the party nominee, Ayub Afridi.

During a news conference at the Haripur Press Club on Thursday, he held a copy of the Holy Quran in his hands and said under oath that he didn’t sell his vote in Senate polls.

“The horse-trading charge had virtually destroyed his political career and family’s honour,” claimed Zaman.

Substantiating that he belonged to an upright family, Zaman said he belonged to a well-off family, which spends millions of rupees monthly on charity projects in Ghazi tehsil.

He expressed that a conspiracy was hatched against him by a lobby working within the PTI and a couple of people from Haripur, however, denied that Chief Minister Pervez Khattak was among those, behind the vilification campaign against MPAs.

“I would prove his innocence and would even move the court for the purpose if the need arose,” declared the politician.

Moreover, MPA Wajiuzaman Khan has also denied the Senate election horse-trading charge against him and announced that he would take PTI supremo Imran Khan to the court of law for defamation in that respect.

“Imran Khan is not ready to listen to the truth and is busy levelling baseless allegations against others,” he claimed.
