Pot-bellied policemen given one-month deadline to lose weight

ISLAMABAD – Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal has given a one-month deadline to all pot-bellied police officials to reduce their weight.

While addressing ‘Police Darbar’ on Tuesday at Police Line Headquarters in Islamabad, the interior minister warned the officials not to allow their waistlines to exceed 38 inches.

He said that obese inspectors have been given 30 days to shape up, adding that police officials should be slim, smart and active.

Iqbal further said that a police force of 800,000 was insufficient for the security of a population over 200 million, adding that police had a major role in developing peace in the country.

He also hailed the sacrifices rendered by police in the line of duty, adding that the personnel also performed their duties even on Eid days.

The minister, who also holds the portfolio of Planning Development and Reforms, said that he took over the responsibilities of the interior ministry as a challenge.

He also advised media to restrain from live coverage of security operation, adding that the media and police should outline a strategy in this regard.

Ahsan Iqbal asked the police to stand along the victims against tyrants. He added that there was need of ‘community policing’ to weed out the terrorism.

He added that some elements were trying to impede the development of Pakistan through sit-ins and inciting speeches, adding that they have to wait until next elections.
