Security forces foil terror attack on Governor Balochistan Muhammad Khan Achakzai

QUETTA – A terror plot to target Balochistan Governor Muhammad Khan Achakzai was staved off by security forces, provincial home minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti told newsmen on Wednesday.

Addressing a joint press conference with DIG Abdul Razzaq Cheema, the minister said that the militants were planning a terrorist attack in Qilla Abdulla but as the law enforcers sprung into action on a timely  basis, two terrorists were arrested from Gulistan area of Quetta city.

The terrorists were identified as Hamid Bashir and Munawar and they were planning to carry out an attack on Governor Muhammad Khan Achakzai through suicide bombing.

“These terrorists had formed the plan in Afghanistan to assassinate the governor of Balochistan and were linked to the same group that was involved in the assassination of Shuja Khanzada,” said Sarfraz Bugti.

The forces recovered suicide jackets and weapons from the terrorists’ possession during the operation that came days after a suicide bomber ripped through a church in the city killing 9 people.

The legislator said that the provincial government was working to provide foolproof security to officers associated with forces.

Moreover, DIG Abdul Razzaq Cheema maintained that church representatives in the province had been assured of security, in a meeting held a day ago.

Let it be known that the security forces defused 12 kg of explosive material on Monday near Quetta development authority.
