At least four injured in Chaman blast ahead of polls
CHAMAN - At least four people, including a child, were injured in an explosion on Chaman's Mall Road on Friday, days before the July 25 elections in the country.

According to police, around six kilogrammes of explosive material, which was planted in a motorbike, was used in the blast. The bike was exploded through a remote control device targeting a vehicle of law enforcement agencies.

The security vehicles and other private cars parked near the site were damaged in the explosion, while windows of nearby buildings were also shattered. Around ten shops partially damaged after catching fire following the blast.

The injured, two of whom are said to be in critical state, were shifted to the Civil Hospital for medical treatment.

Internet services were suspended an hour before the incident occurred after law enforcement agencies received information about a security threat in the area.

The security forces have cordoned off the area and investigation in underway.

The Mall Road is a busy road with important offices located in the vicinity including the police's Special Branch office, the City Police Station, a Frontier Corps check post. The additional deputy commissioner - revenue also resides in the same locality.

Earlier this month, key political leaders and candidates were attacked during the election campaign in the recent spate of the terror attacks.

Around 150 people were martyred and over 250 others injured in the recent wave of terror attacks which hit political gathering in Peshawar, Bannu and Mastung amid elections.

Among those killed were Awami National Party (ANP) leader Haroon Bilour and Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) candidate Siraj Raisani.
