ISLAMABAD – Tehmina Janjua has become the first Pakistani female who assumed charge as foreign secretary on Monday.
She replaces Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhry, who has been appointed as Pakistan’s envoy to the United States.
Before assuming charge, Janjua was serving as Pakistan’s Representative to the United Nations Geneva.
She served as spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs during 2011. Ms. Janjua also served as Ambassador of Pakistan to Italy from December 2011 to October 2015.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had approved her appointment after carefully analysing all names for the key diplomatic post.
