LAHORE—The US Consul General in Lahore, Kristin K. Hawkins, visited Gujrat on Thursday to meet with faculty and students benefiting from a US-funded initiative to strengthen entrepreneurship training at universities across Punjab.
Consul General Hawkins stated, “The United States wants to see young Pakistani entrepreneurs and students thrive. That’s why we are focused on introducing best practices at 15 universities across Punjab that are training future Pakistani entrepreneurs and business leaders.”
The ongoing entrepreneurship partnership with the University of Gujrat is the latest stage in a long-term educational collaboration. Previously, the US government supported a $1 million partnership between UoG and the University of Oklahoma, which continues to benefit students today. For example, UoG journalism students now train in a studio constructed with US funding.
CG Hawkins interviewed student journalists to spread news of opportunities for youth to apply for US-funded exchange programs and to explain how students can find more information about those opportunities on the Consulate’s social media accounts.
During her visit, Consul General Hawkins also toured the Hafiz Muhammad Hayat Shrine, which was restored in 2009 with US government funding. Since 2001, the US government has funded 35 cultural heritage preservation projects across Pakistan. Additionally, she met with Deputy Commissioner Safdar Virk and expressed gratitude for his hospitality and support during her first trip to Gujrat.
