MULTAN – Seasoned politician and former legislator Javed Hashmi asserted on Thursday that a ‘judicial martial law’ was underway in the country, a vindication of which was Sheikh Rasheed’s press conference.
Talking to newsmen, Hashmi said as per his earlier warnings a “judicial martial law” was under way but hastened to add that it was nothing new.
“Judiciary had never been independent in the country,” claimed the veteran politician and alleged that Sheikh Rashid never did his own politics and had always taken directions from ‘others’.
The former lawmaker continued that Senate polls had exposed everyone as the majority was converted into a minority.
“Horse-trading was resorted to and the one who was having 30 votes got 45 votes,” added the politician.
Hashmi, who parted ways with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf during the 2014 sit-in, also demanded the Supreme Court to probe the Senate polls.
No Judicial Martial Law
Chief Justice Of Pakistan Justice Saqib Nisar ruled out the possibility of a judicial martial law in the country as there was no space for it in the Constitution.
The chief justice stated this on Friday while addressing a ceremony regarding Pakistan Day in Lahore, asserting, “When I am here there will be no martial law”.
Without going into detail, Nisar said that no martial law will be imposed from inside or outside.
The comments of the top judge of the country came after political leaders called for judicial intervention to set up a caretaker government before going into the general elections 2018.
On Wednesday, Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rasheed had urged the chief justice of Pakistan to impose a 90-day-long ‘judicial martial law’ in the run-up to forthcoming general elections.
He said appointing the caretaker prime minister is the actual responsibility of the chief justice as the whole nation was looking up to the judiciary in this regard.
